Maddie is so cute and fun that it makes sense she works in PR. For a young professional she gets it when it comes to fashion and saving money on premium labels and styles so your $ can go farther. She knows what she likes and how to pull it all together effortlessly.
From day to evening, to weekend, these are Maddie’s fashion picks that reflect her personal style.
Outift 1: Boyfriend jeans; chiffon tank, Oak & Fort oversize blazer, leather ankle boots, Marc Jacobs bag.
Outfit 2: Little black dress, leather jacket, heels and an accessory with a pop of colour.
Outfit 3: Denim cut offs, boho top, plaid blouse, ankle boots & a cross body mini bag.
How would you describe your personal style?
I had a friend describe my wardrobe as “urban lady lumberjack” due to my affinity for denim, flannel, leather and plaid, and it kind of stuck. I wear a lot of neutral colours, and always gravitate toward traditionally masculine pieces in feminine cuts. I keep that contrast in mind – if I’m wearing boyfriend jeans, I’ll tuck in a delicate tank and throw on a heeled bootie. If I’m heading to an event in a knockout dress, I’m adding a black leather jacket and a fun purse. (see her outfit choices that reflect this!)
Also, dressing for Canadian weather teaches you a sense of practicality, so you’ll rarely see me without a jacket, even in the warmer months. This year, my summer uniform consists of denim cutoffs, a detailed tank, and a flannel button-up – just in case.
What does fashion mean to you?
For me, fashion is a great way to connect with people. The easiest way to start a conversation is complimenting someone on what they’re wearing and asking where they found such a great piece. I can almost guarantee it’ll put a smile on their face, and it’s the best way to discover brands and stores you might have missed. Everybody wins!
Fashion is also a great way to show what you value in a brand. For me, that means supporting local business and reducing the amount of fast fashion I purchase. When people ask where I picked up a great bag or a cool pair of shoes, I love being able to say “consignment!”, because I know that I’m boosting a business I care about.
What do you like about SalvEdge Boutique/consignment shopping in general?
Price is a very real incentive for me to shop consignment. After university, I had to build a professional wardrobe from scratch and it hit me pretty quickly just how much it would cost. In exchange for a few pieces that had been sitting in my closet, consignment shopping allowed me to purchase high-quality clothing that I know I’m going to wear for years.
The consignment experience feels much more curated and personal. I like getting to know the owners and staff, and find out what pieces they’re most excited about – Krista is an expert! You’ll shop tons of brands and discover hard-to-find pieces with people that are genuinely excited to send you home with clothes you love.
