Now that the cold weather has hit, we’re all updating our wardrobes with pieces that are not only stylish, but much warmer. One staple in every Fall/Winter wardrobe is a few pairs of amazing jeans that can be paired with anything from a cozy sweater to a sequin top. If you’re like us at SalvEdge Boutique, and every winter you’re struck with the desire to add some new denim to your wardrobe, it may be time to head out shopping for a new pair of jeans (or 10; we won’t judge). When shopping consignment the options are endless. Here are a few tips that will help you find your denim soul mate.

With every new season comes a new trend for denim and this year the two major fads of the moment are a cropped jean and embroidered jeans.
Cropped Jeans: While this trend seems a little crazy with snow on the ground it seems everyone is jumping on board regardless. But we aren’t complaining because there is nothing we love more than being able to carry over pieces from our summer wardrobe. To keep the cropped jean season appropriate we recommend pairing it with a heeled bootie and an over-sized knit sweater. And if you’re feeling just a little too chilly in a cropped jean that’s where those great knee high boots will keep you nice and warm.
Embroidered Jeans: When embroidered jeans started showing up in fashion magazines we were beyond excited to see one of our favourite 90s trends back in action. While this trend was everywhere in the 90s, the embroidered denim we are seeing this time around has major 70s vibes. The embroidered denim that we are falling in love with has a more hippie style with a wide flare and flower embroidery. We suggest embracing the hippie style and pair a flared embroidered jean with a loose lace white shirt. Or if you are able to find a skinny pair with a more rock and roll vibe, wear with a leather jacket and a pair of black stilettos for a fun night out look.
If you are looking to invest in only one new pair of really great jeans that are going to be with you for years to come you may want to skip over the new trends, and instead go with a pair that will be in fashion for many seasons to come. The two styles of denim that seem to not be going anywhere anytime soon, is the boyfriend and the skinny. Both of these styles are super versatile. If you’re going for a more casual look, pair either style with an oversized sweaterand a pair of comfy Converse. Alternatively, you can dress up the same pair of jeans with a heel and a plunging bodysuit for a girls night out.
Finding that Perfect Fit
Jeans are one piece of clothing that if you find the right style and fit, can look great on every shape and size. When looking for the pair that works best the first thing you must do is make sure they fit right. The absolute worst thing is finding a great pair of jeans only to find out once you are sitting down you can’t even breathe. To make sure this doesn’t happen when trying on jeans walk around and squat in them to make sure they stay sitting where they should. As well, definitely sit down in the jeans to make sure they are comfortable no matter what you may be doing throughout the day.
Additionally, keep your body shape in mind when hunting for that perfect pair. If you are a curvier gal we suggest a good fitting skinny jean that accentuates your gorgeous curves and if you are wanting to slim down your silhouette you can do so by choosing denim in black or dark blue. If you have more of an athletic or slender shape to your body we suggest more of a boyfriend style which can give the illusion of a curvier shape.
Designer – It’s Worth It
Our final recommendation is to invest in premium designer denim. This is one of those times where paying a bit more is definitely worth it. Designer denim tends to last longer when it comes to wear and tear; they also hold their shape so much better. Some of our favorite designer brands for denim are Nudies, Rag & Bone, Current/Elliott and Adriano Goldschmied (AG). But don’t fret if you’re on a budget, that’s where consignment shops come in – you can always find designer denim that is new or like new for under $100 no problem. Come visit SalvEdge Boutique Consignment at one of our two locations today, and we’ll hook you up with a great pair of jeans!
