Your professional work attire doesn’t have to be boring or tedious to shop for. You can still reflect your personal style. But you have a lot going on in your life that’s not just work, so consider a capsule wardrobe for your “professional self” with good pieces to mix and match several ways. This way you have more $ and more options for clothing and accessories for the other parts of your life – fitness, weekend, travel, evening, etc. This is also a good idea for graduates of college who are just starting out. And guess what ladies; by shopping consignment you get better quality pieces and better brands for less $!
First choose your basic neutrals – BLACK & GREY or NAVY & TAUPE/BROWN.
Try to have these 12 basics to mix and match.
- 2-3 BLAZERS (Consider one in a pattern or bright colour)
- SLEEVELESS BASIC DRESS
- SKINNY PANT
- WIDER LEG PANT
- PENCIL SKIRT
- WHITE BLOUSE
- BUTTON DOWN SHIRT (Consider a pattern)
- 1-2 SWEATERS
- WHITE &/OR BLACK FITTED TEE OR A BODY SUIT

Here is 1 dress worn 4 different ways using CAPSULE WARDROBE pieces:
We chose a couple different pants in a wider leg that were more unique, and high waist for the personal style angle. Choose what you like and what’s best on your body shape. If you like skinny pants better, go for it!
We incorporated the same blazers from the CAPSULE WARDROBE, and added a cardigan.
Opt for a pencil skirt so you have options; not just pants and dresses for your professional attire. Go for something with interesting detail like this one! We kept with the high waist theme also.
